Recently a faculty team from the Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology (GCIT) visited BRCS HQ. The team from GCIT was lead by Mr Lee Chee Young, Head of Finance & School Services. Accompanying the hon’ble SG of BRCS, the meeting was attended by the Program Coordinator, Youth Volunteer Focal Officer, representative of the Health Division, & Disaster Management Unit.
The meeting highlighted for the two institutions to scope possible digital and technology based project advancement and to give opportunities to the college students to receive project funds. And also to see further international opportunities for the BRCS youth volunteers to attend and participate to enhance their classroom knowledges. The officials further discussed to pilot with GCIT to develop an integrated disaster preparedness and response plan development that not only focuses on digital advancement but also on building community resilience by enhancing the college’s disaster response system based on the lesson learnt from the unfortunate flashflood in Dechencholing-Thimphu last summer in 2024 given the college’s vulnerability further up from Dechencholing. As the college has already developed a Contingency Plan with the support from the Department of Local Governance & Disaster Management. BRCS & GCIT shall work on integrating the College’s Contingency Plan to the BRCS’s Contingency Plan based on the finalization of the revision of the National Disaster Response Mechanism. As per the National Annual Plan (NAP) 2025 of BRCS in the 2nd Qtr it is expected to receive some experts in developing and testing the BRCS’s National Contingency plan given its link into the National Disaster Management Authority under His Majesty’s Secretariat & internationally. Some of the GCIT college students and Red Cross volunteers will possibly be involved in this development for digital integration nationally and internationally.
Further the officials confirmed and agreed to transit the College Youth Volunteer base to a sustainable Red Cross Club. This will embark further in institutionalizing the Red Cross Clubs in all the 10 colleges across the country to integrate youths into the mainstream branch setup & also to further enhance the community-based youth volunteer integration.
