The Secretary-General of the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS), along with the Bhutan Delegation, held an introductory meeting with the Australian Red Cross (ARC) in Geneva, Switzerland. Both National Societies (NS) expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect and exchanged insights on their respective mandates. BRCS shared updates on its services, disaster management activities, and unique challenges such as bush and forest fires, a common concern for isolated regions, whether landlocked or coastal.
The meeting also provided a valuable space for dialogue on youth integration, with the ARC Youth Commission Representative. BRCS highlighted the potential for collaboration in training and development opportunities for BRCS volunteers based in Australia, which would support their integration and enhance career prospects.
Following the discussions, the BRCS Secretary-General will engage with the ARC President to explore collaboration further upon returning to Bhutan. BRCS will seek guidance on developing a potential concept paper for a partnership project aimed at supporting BRCS Volunteers and Dessups in Australia. Additional areas for collaboration between BRCS and ARC will be explored in future engagements.
