Mr. Sonam Wangdi from His Majesty’s Secretariat (BRCS Focal for Forensic Action at HMS), Dr. Norbu from the Forensic Department, JDWNRH as recommended through Kidu Medical Service- His Majesty’s Secretariat, and the Disaster Management and Social Service Officer- BRCS, Mr. Sangay Tshong attended a five days intensive forensic capacity building training organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

The program was supported by ICRC focusing on enhancing our forensic capacities, including setting up functional mortuary systems, understanding the workflow from body recovery to identification, and visiting a virtual autopsy center to learn about the necessary infrastructure and equipment.

They also gained valuable insights into the procedural formalities for transporting the deceased, involving coordination with police and other authorities. Additionally, they learned about proper documentation procedures and best practices for body storage, ensuring effective multi-agency coordination.

This training marks a significant step towards improving our response and efficiency in handling dead bodies during disasters as part of the lessons learnt from the Pandemic. They will further enhance the development of SoPs, and further development of the Specialized Volunteers of BRCS in the branches across the country, and the officials of the Mortuary and related fields.
