A three-member high-level delegation from Bhutan Red Cross recently attended the Country-Cluster Leadership Meeting in New Delhi, & conducted bilateral meetings with the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, the IFRC-CCD, & the ICRC Regional Delegation office presenting the Development Plan Phase II (DP 2)- 2026 to 2030 of the Strategy 2030.
The team was led by the Chairperson & Representative of His Majesty’s Secretariat to BRCS, ZimponWogma Karma Tenzin along with Member of Governance for Partnership & Strategy, ZimponWogma Nim Tshering, & the Secretary-General of Bhutan Red Cross.
Representing the governance leadership of BRCS, the delegation contributed to key discussions on strategic direction, partnership strengthening, and institutional development within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
The delegation held a meeting at the Royal Bhutanese Embassy with the Deputy Chief of Mission, on behalf of H.E. the Ambassador. The delegation provided updates on the implementation of BRCS DP2, highlighting its focus on strengthening institutional capacity, expanding humanitarian services, and enhancing community resilience. Progress on the construction of the Bhutan Red Cross Center in Thimphu for the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), Training Center and Logistics hub, a key investment to enhance national emergency preparedness and response, & the development of the GMC Bhutan Red Cross Branch Office were also shared & discussed.
Updates were also shared on the ongoing translation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) instruments in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General into national language to improve accessibility and awareness, alongside the initiative to establish a National IHL Committee to strengthen coordination and promotion of IHL in Bhutan.
They also met with the Heads of Delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), where updates were shared on DP2 priorities, the EOC construction, and efforts to advance IHL dissemination and institutional development according to the resolution of the 34th International Conference.
These engagements positions BRCSโs commitment to strengthening partnerships and advancing its strategic priorities in line with national and global humanitarian goals fulfilling Royal Government of Bhutan’s commitment as a State Party to the Geneva Convention, and also to bring advantage of resources, knowhow, & technologies to Bhutan with Bhutan Red Cross as a member to the IFRC, one of the largest humanitarian network globally.
