We are pleased to announce a significant milestone in the development of the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS) as we welcome Mr Tshoejab Mepham Delen, General Counsel of His Majestyโs Secretariat as the Legal Adviser of BRCS. This appointment signifies a crucial step in bolstering the legal foundation of the National Society and marks an important development.
As part of the formalization process today on behalf of the NS and the management, the Honโble Secretary-General and the officials of the Communication Unit, and Disaster Management Unit of Program Department through a simple ceremony welcomed our Legal Adviser on board.
Further continuing the ceremony the Legal Adviser underwent the National Orientation, familiarizing with the provisions of the BRCS Act 2016, gaining an overview of the Strategy 2030, and understanding the diverse programs and services that BRCS undertakes.
This comprehensive understanding will enable the Legal Adviser to effectively fulfill his role in providing legal counsel and supporting the development of the National Society and standardizing legal systems.
With this formality the Legal Adviser will become a member of the Legal Advisers Group of the ICRC on behalf of BRCS. The expertise and guidance of the Legal Adviser will be instrumental in advising BRCS on national and international legal matters, as well as on international humanitarian law (IHL). Moreover, the Legal Adviser will be responsible for supervising and guiding research on specific legal matters and broader sectors of the national legal system, ensuring that BRCS remains abreast of legal developments and best practices by strengthening the legal base of the National Society in alignment with the policies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The appointment of Mr Tshoejab Mepham Delen as the Legal Adviser of BRCS is a testament to the commitment of the NS to upholding the highest standards of legal governance and compliance.
The Legal Adviser is scheduled to travel to Delhi-India and meet with the officials of the ICRC-Regional Delegation at the end of the month as part of the formalization.
