In preparation for the 34th International Conference of the IFRC & ICRC in Geneva this month, a courtesy meeting was convened between the Secretary-General (SG) of the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS) and the Foreign Secretary today. BRCS as a National Society recognized by ICRC and admitted to the IFRC since 2019 will be for the first time attending the International Conference along side the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) as a State party to the Geneva Convention.

Key discussions included updates on the 24th General Assembly, Council of Delegates, and the 34th International Conference. Bilateral meetings with key partners such as the Finnish, Swiss, and Singapore Red Cross were also highlighted.

Progress on the appointment of a legal advisor, the Anticipatory Action Program, and contingency planning were also discussed, along with BRCS’s role in disaster response and disaster prepardness under the NDMA and the Disaster Response Mechanisms under the guidances of His Majesty’s Secretariat.

The SG thanked the ministry for the continued support and cooperation, and assured to commit further on building the community network and resilience for climate change & adaptation.
